Bette Midler accepted the 2026 Woody Guthrie Prize at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa on October 16, joining a group of artists recognized for carrying Woody Guthrie’s commitment to social change into their own work.

Midler also surprised the audience with her version of Guthrie’s “All You Fascists (Bound to Lose),” according to an October 17 post-event media alert from the Woody Guthrie Center’s publicists. She took part in an onstage conversation with music journalist Rona Elliot.

A night of music in Tulsa

Country artist Bryan Andrews closed the evening with an acoustic performance. The publicists’ set list includes “Man in Black,” “Backwoods Backwards,” “Daughter’s Plea” and “Yeehaw,” along with Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.”

The celebration raised funds for the center’s educational programs, public concerts and exhibitions. A silent auction included a signed ukulele from Midler’s personal collection and other music-related items.

The Woody Guthrie Center announced Midler’s selection in August. The October ceremony brought that honor to the stage at the historic Tulsa venue, where the award presentation and musical performances celebrated Guthrie’s continuing influence.

Since 2014, the prize has recognized artists who combine creative achievement with a commitment to positive social change. Previous recipients include Pete Seeger, Mavis Staples, Bruce Springsteen and U2. In related news, read our coverage of U2’s 2027 tour and new single.
